Adriamycin, also known as 14-hydroxy-positive-amicin, 14-hydroxy-daunorubicin, doxorubicin, adriamycin, adriamycin, and hydroxyrubicin, is an anthracycline anti-tumor antibiotic produced by the subspecies of Streptomyces bosaiensis, which is a non-specific drug in cell cycle and sensitive to s and M phases. The hydrochloride is orange needle crystal. Melting point 204-205 ℃. Soluble in water, ethanol and methanol. The aqueous solution is stable, and it will not change for one month when it is placed at 5 ℃, but it is unstable when it is higher temperature or in acid or alkaline solution. The acid solution is orange yellow, the neutral solution is orange chemical book red, and the alkaline solution is purple blue (pH > 9). Insoluble in acetone, benzene, petroleum ether, ether, chloroform. It is an antineoplastic antibiotic isolated from actinomycetes. The mechanism of action is similar to daunorubicin. Its antitumor spectrum is wide and its therapeutic index is high.
