Methylparaben

Methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, also known as Methyl Paraben or methylparaben, white crystal powder or colorless crystal, soluble in alcohol, ether and acetone, very slightly soluble in water, boiling point 270-280 ℃. It is mainly used as antiseptic for organic synthesis, food, cosmetics and medicine, and also as feed antiseptic. Because of its phenolic hydroxyl structure, it has better antibacterial properties than benzoic acid and sorbic acid. The mechanism of action is to destroy the cell membrane of microorganism, denature the protein in cell, and inhibit the activity of respiratory enzyme system and electron transfer enzyme system of microorganism cell.
